Biosistemak

Biosistemak promotes and carries out management and organization research on health and socio-health services in Basque Country (Spain). Its scientific research programme is aligned with the policies of the Ministry of Health of the Basque Government, that pursues the continuous adaptation and transformation of the health system by keeping people at the centre of the system and addressing the challenges derived from aging, chronicity and dependency.

Biosistemak enables the implementation of innovative practices and generate scientific evidence regarding chronicity and health services sustainability, innovation, outcomes, scalability and transferability. Its expertise lies in:

  • Make analyses for health promotion strategies.

  • Study of stratification models and their usefulness to predict patients’ needs and adequacy of resources.

  • Design of personalized care.

  • Define best models and management services for integrated care.

  • Define strategies and advanced methods of decision-making.  

  • Promote organizational transformation and innovation, including research in developing new products and technologies for e-health (diagnosis, support, monitoring and coordination).

The main research areas are Health policy evaluation, Process and outcome evaluation, Decision support and Development and evaluation of organizational models.

Biosistemak is experienced in the coordination and management of European projects (Horizon 2020 and 3rd Health Programme) and Joint Actions mainly related to research and implementation of innovative health care delivery integration systems. The Institute’s area of expertise comprises the development and implementation ICT enabled solutions for the management of chronic disease, evaluation of health services and identification of determinants in the management of chronicity, with a common framework that integrates both social and health aspects.

Biosistemak will be involved in several WPs and tasks of the project. Biosistemak will lead WP1 Project Coordination and Management, including the Administrative coordination, Financial management, Operational management, Quality assurance and performance monitoring, and the Ethics plan. From the most technical point of view, Biosistemak will lead WP9 Evaluation and pilot outcome assessment. The main tasks within this WP will rely on the evaluation, from a qualitative and quantitative point of view, the success and effectiveness of the intervention. Biosistemak’s team will also be involved in the Basque Country pilot site carrying out and supporting Osakidetza, a third party of the ADLIFE consortium, in different tasks such as defining the personalized care plan management, incorporate the PEP application in the Basque Country or outlining and developing the clinical decision support system.
