José María Quintana

José is a Doctor in Medicine, specialist in Preventive Medicine and Public Health, Pediatrics, holds a Master of Science in Epidemiology and, also, in Health Policy and Management by the School of Public Health of Harvard University. He has been Head of the Research Unit of the Galdakao-Usansolo Hospital for 25 years, and scientific coordinator of the Spanish Network for Research in Health Services in Chronic Diseases (REDISSEC). His research areas, within the scope of health services research, focuses on the study of the appropriateness, variability and patient safety; the evaluation of the effectiveness of different interventions, devices or treatments; development of predictive models and of clinical practice rules; development of assessment tools to measure health related quality of life as referred by the patient. He has participated and participates in various research projects, regional, national and European. Among them, he has significant leadership and experience in the development and validation of clinical prediction rules projects as well as the development of applications derived from them with more than 70 publications on the field. Additionally, he is the author of more than 230 scientific articles, several of them on intervention studies. Data from the Web of Science indicates that he has an h-index of 33 and has been cited 4180 times in 3512 articles. It has 10 products registered as copyright. He has directed 15 doctoral theses and 5 more are underway.
