ADLIFE Newsletter

Issue 2 | October 2020

In our second newsletter, we have our regular catch-up on what we’ve been doing on the project, alongside two new blogs and a Q & A with Professor Theo Arvanitis at the University of Warwick.

Highlights from ADLIFE

We are making good progress with developing our ADLIFE Toolkit of resources to support our integrated and coordinated care provision for people with advanced chronic diseases in Europe. Over the last couple of months, the Work Package 3 Leads University of Warwick have been very busy designing the technical specification and architecture for the ADLIFE Toolkit.

Team members from the University of Warwick have been busy liaising with all our clinical pilot sites. Want to know more?

Team members from the University of Warwick have been busy liaising with all of our clinical pilot sites and their respective IT teams to explore what the technical needs of each clinical site are to support their use of the ADLIFE Toolkit. The University of Warwick are developing a System Requirement Specification Document to collate lots of information from all of the clinical sites into a structured set of diagrams, instructions and rules which will directly inform the design and development processes for the ADLIFE Toolkit. Mr Omar Khan, Lead Software Engineer at Institute of Digital Healthcare, Warwick University, has been leading these activities. Omar tells us why gathering all this information from the clinical sites is going to be so important for the technological developments and getting our clinical sites ready to use the ADLIFE Toolkit:  “Close collaboration with pilot sites is essential to make sure the ADLIFE toolkit being developed fits the needs of our clinical partners. This includes: making sure the toolkit has all the functions necessary for managing complex integrated care plans; provides clinically sound results; and fits with the workflow used by clinicians so it helps rather than hinders their work. Part of this process is the development of a System Requirements Specification. This is a structured document which details all aspects of the system to be developed, recording the original requirements from pilot sites and tracing them through to individual components and functions necessary to deliver them.   Sitting alongside the Requirements Specification is the Architectural Design. This document outlines how the components that are part of the ADLIFE toolkit will be structured, hosted and communicate, both with each other and with the systems at each of the pilot sites. This is developed through discussion with pilot site IT teams to ensure that all the sites are able to install and run the system correctly, including integrating the toolkit with already existing Electronic Health Record systems.”

We will continue to update you on our exciting development activities, so look out for more information about how the ADLIFE Toolkit is progressing in future issues of our Newsletter!

Events, Seminars and Conferences

Since our last newsletter, we have participated in and hosted at events and conferences across Europe – virtually that is!

C3-Cloud Grand Finale Conference 2020

In our process, AdLife is using tools and solutions developed by C3-Cloud. On Friday, 28th August, ADLIFE's Chief Investigator Esteban de Manuel presented ADLIFE's project, at the Grand Finale Conference, details of which can be found by following this link.

The conference uncovered how digital health tools can enable health systems to respond to the escalating challenge of multimorbidity, through providing more personalised and empowering care. Click here to be linked to the full day of events.

Shared Decision Making Webinar

presented by Odense University Hospital (OUH)

On Monday, 21st September, our partners over at OUH hosted a webinar on Shared Decision Making. You can read their blog on the topic below.

Odense University Hospital recommends the following video for tips and links for providers. Links to the recorded webinar will be available soon, shared in our website 'News' section and on our Twitter page.

Future events
