Ana Ortega-Gil reflects on her time at MIT Innovators Festival 2022

In May 2022, I was in beautiful Gaoth Dobhair, Ireland for EmTech Europe's MIT Innovators Festival 2022. The event brought together pioneers across Europe and beyond who are showing the positive impact unleashed by the power of technology and innovation.

I was extremely proud to have been on stage explaining the value of designing outcome-based technologies and to have been awarded as a European MIT Innovator Under 35 2022.

The incredible innovators I met were all passionate about addressing meaningful societal challenges: sustainability, healthcare, accessibility and inclusion.  I was really curious about the circular economy for mattresses created by Michaela Stephen, and about the importance of supporting anyone who wants to speak breaking down any linguistic or physical barrier through the experiences of Sergio Gallastegui  and  Owen McGirr.

I also met colleagues from the healthcare domain, working on drug development as Charles Chen, assistive technologies as Alfons Carnicero Carmona, or health outcomes as Dorota Chapko.

As a group, we were all were inspired by those who have already walked the path of entrepreneurship before us. I had the chance to engage in discussions about the translational experiences of lab to the field in Ecuador with Inty Gronneberg, Founder of Ichthion and 2018 Innovator Under 35. I also learned some fascinating insights about the growth of the social prescribing movement with one of the most influential women in UK Tech 2020, Leeann Monk-Özgül, co-founder of Elemental.

I would like to express my sincere thanks to the EmTech team, the jury members, the fantastic moderator Máirtín Ó Muilleoir and all the sponsors for welcoming us in such a vibrant region for this wonderful event.  Being an MIT Innovator Under 35 is a truly special experience and one I would highly recommend for others to pursue when the opportunity arises.
