University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire NHS Trust
University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust (UHCW NHS Trust) is one of the UK's largest teaching Trusts responsible for managing two major hospitals in Coventry and Rugby, which between them serve a population of over a million people. UHCW is a teaching hospital for Warwick Medical School with whom they work in close partnership to develop innovative medical education programmes and clinical research.
The hospitals are:
Hospital of St Cross, Rugby
University Hospital, Coventry
Every year the Trust provide more than 800,000 episodes of care to patients from across Coventry, Warwickshire and beyond.
UHCW NHS Trust is one of the UK's largest acute teaching Trusts serving a socially and ethnically diverse population of over a million people. The Trust has a revenue budget of over £700million, employs in excess of 8000 staff, manages 1250 beds and 32 operating theatres, and delivers services across two sites: University Hospital in Coventry and the Hospital of St Cross in Rugby.
UHCW is the affiliated university hospital for a flourishing medical school (University of Warwick), and a strong nursing and allied health professionals school (Coventry University). The University Hospital in Coventry was opened in 2006 and was designed to have research at its core, with purpose-built clinical research facilities embedded within the healthcare setting. UHCW has grown rapidly as a research-active Trust, attracting significant research income from national (e.g. NIHR) and international (e.g. EU Horizon program) funders, as well as from the third sector. UHCW leads several multicentre randomised controlled trials (RCTs) which are run with other NHS Trusts in the UK and sites abroad, including RCTs on new drugs, surgical interventions, devices and digital health applications. In addition, UHCW is currently running several COVID-19 related studies.
UHCW are therefore experienced in all types of clinical research studies, and in a position to carry out our role in the work packages of the ADLIFE Study. Overall, developing excellence in research, innovation and education is a Trust strategic priority. We are committed to establishing our Trust as an internationally recognised centre of excellence through supporting our staff, working in world class facilities and conducting leading edge research focused on the needs of our patients. This includes the use and interpretation of Healthcare data to develop and validate algorithms with the aim of implementing digital health processes into the day to day operating of the Trust. We therefore are becoming increasingly involved in research studies looking at the impact of digital interventions.
The major roles in the project will be in WP3 tools to create care plans, WP5 clinical decision support and WP8 one of the clinical sites undertaking the pilot design and implementation of the ADLIFE solution.
