Region Jämtland Härjedalen

The main responsibilities of Region Jämtland Härjedalen are primary and secondary healthcare, preventative measures and dentistry, as well as regional development in an area of approximately 130,000 inhabitants. Secondary healthcare is carried out at the sole hospital in the region's only town, Östersund Hospital, with 416 beds and 51 out-patient clinics. Primary healthcare is carried out in 28 locations, while home and social care are the responsibilities of the eight municipalities. There are roughly 4,000 employees in 100 different professions in Region Jämtland Härjedalen.

With few inhabitants spread out over a geographical area comparable to Belgium and the Netherlands in size, it is essential to reinforce ways of providing equal and near care. This emphasises the need to develop and expand the knowledge and understanding of the benefits of using digital tools in enhancing equal and near care. As a project, the ADLIFE will serve the development needs of the Region well.

The unit within Region Jämtland Härjedalen and its organisation-wide Project Office that is responsible for the ADLIFE project is the EU ProjectCentre. Its portfolio contains six Horizon 2020 and one ERDF project. Our first Horizon 2020 project C3-Cloud 2014-2020 can be seen as a precursor to ADLIFE. Region Jämtland Härjedalen is undertaking an organisation-wide initiative that entails a strategic transformation towards ”near care”. This originates from the major national initiative ”Good quality, local health care – a joint roadmap and vision”. This focuses on coordination, integration and personalised care, areas with much in common with the aims of the ADLIFE project and are specifically relevant to WP6. As a county, Jämtland Härjedalen offers many possibilities for a healthy lifestyle through its vast nature and various  outdoor activities. Leading research and testing environments in medicine, sports and outdoor life create great opportunities for big brands and successful elite athletes. Growing industries and young entrepreneurs with a global outlook are based in the region. Here you will also find the country's largest alpine destinations that welcome guests from all over the world.

In ADLIFE, Region Jämtland Härjedalen will function as coordinator of the Swedish pilot site; work package leader of evidence-based personalised care delivery (WP6); and contribute to tasks across other work packages to support methodological developments and adaptations as well as their dissemination.
