Dr. Debra Gershov West

Director of Emergency Medicine

Debra studied medicine at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia and completed her internship at Alfred Hospital in 1994, before emigrating to Israel. She continued her training specializing first in Internal Medicine and then in Emergency Medicine. From 1997-2000 she was a post-doctoral fellow in the Hospital for Special Surgery in the Cornell Medical center in New York where she engaged in benchtop research in the field of innate immunity.   In 2014 she designed and implemented the National Israeli Course in Emergency Medicine, which is now a required portion of Emergency Medicine residency nationwide. From 2014-2017 she was the director of the Surgical Emergency Department of Sourasky Medical Center in Tel Aviv. In 2017 she was recruited to be the Director of the Department of Emergency Medicine in Samson Assuta Ashdod University Hospital and established the only integrated Emergency Department in Israel. She continues in this position to this date. Dr. Gershov West was an elected board member of the Israeli Association of Emergency Medicine from 2014-2022 and is currently a member of the steering committee of the Mandell Institute and the Ministry of Health initiative to bring medical education and leadership to the Negev.
